New Cycle Parking Facilities for Cambrian Railway Stations 13/11/2007

Aberystwyth station bike standsArriva Trains Wales, the Cambrian Railways Partnership, Ceredigion County Council and TraCC, the Mid Wales Transport Consortium, have teamed up to provide and install new cycle parking facilities at the railway stations in Aberystwyth, Borth, Dovey Junction and Caersws.

A Ceredigion County Council spokesperson commented "The initiative to provide cycle parking shows how partnership working can benefit both the environment and people wishing to use more sustainable forms of transport. We hope to build on this initiative in the future as part of our commitment to promoting cycling through the provision of infrastructure as well as initiatives like refresher/novice bicycle training for adults taking up cycling as a means of transport."

Meleri Jones, on behalf of TraCC said "The new cycle parking at the railway stations are a positive step towards sustainable travel which provides the public with more options for their commute and day to day leisure activities. TraCC hope that future initiatives and partnerships will be equally successful towards delivering public transport needs to the Mid Wales region."

Speaking for the Cambrian Railways Partnership, Gerwyn Jones, who co-ordinated the scheme, commented "Projects such as this help make integration of travel modes, in this case between bikes and trains, easier - these relatively small measures can sometimes be enough to make people think about using their cars less for commuting, work related and other journeys. This new provision develops on the positive response received to the recently installed cycle parking facilities at Machynlleth station."
