The Machynlleth After School Club and the Presiding Officer of the National Assembly for Wales, Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas AM, have helped the Cambrian Railways Partnership (CRP) launch its new 'Cambrian Champion' quiz.

Children from the Club travelled on the Cambrian Coast Line Service, courtesy of Arriva Trains Wales, between Machynlleth and Barmouth on Tuesday the 29th of July.

They had great fun in trying the quiz as they travelled along which included filling in blank spaces in the names of stations as they passed through them, a railway related Wordsearch and 'I Spy'.

Ema Jones, the After School Club Co-ordinator commented: "We are always looking for new things to do to amuse the children after school and during school holidays.

"We often use the trains to take the children to see different things such as the lifeboat station in Aberdyfi and to the cinema in Aberystwyth.

"It's obvious from the fun that the children have had today that this new quiz really adds to their enjoyment of travelling on the trains. We would sincerely like to thank Arriva Trains Wales and the Cambrian Railways Partnership for arranging this for us ".

The format of the quiz means that children can travel all or part of the journey in either direction between Aberystwyth, Machynlleth and Pwllheli and fill in the quiz as they go.

Also included is a small colouring in section of a train for them to complete when they get home - the finished quiz makes a nice poster to go up on the wall to remind them of their day out.

Gerwyn Jones on behalf of the CRP said: "We hope the quiz will be equally popular with local families as well as tourists in adding another dimension to a day out on the train.

"The journey on the Coast Line is a spectacular one - most of it being within the Snowdonia National Park with its varied coastal, country and mountainous views.

"The CRP has for some time been developing a strategy focused on the journey being an attraction in its own right and this is another initiative aimed at achieving this."

The Cambrian Champion quizzes are available for free from local Tourist Information Centres as well as at the Railway Stations in Aberystwyth, Machynlleth and Pwllheli.
