Following the popularity of the 'Cambrian Coastcards' launched last year the Cambrian Railways Partnership have extended the collection to include two new designs.
The first of the new cards, 'The Cambrian Coast - Miles of Glorious Sands', was launched by Cllr. Trevor Roberts as Chair of the Cambrian Coast Line Liaison Conference at its recent meeting held in Porthmadog. Cllr. Roberts said: "This new design will I'm sure prove to be as popular as, if not more than, the ones published last year and are a great way of promoting the Cambrian Coast railway line and the area in general. For many people from the Shropshire and West Midlands areas the Cambrian Coast has been the traditional seaside summer holiday destination for generations. The Coastcards help remind them that the Cambrian Coast is still easily accessible by train and that the journey on the Coast Line is a great visitor attraction in its own right."
The second card promotes travel from the Cambrian network to Shrewsbury by train. A ‘ Cambrian Coastcard' for Shrewsbury is quite something, being that Shrewsbury is some seventy miles from the Cambrian Coast of course! However, in launching this card Cllr. Mansel Williams, Chair of the Aberystwyth-Shrewsbury Line Liaison Conference at its recent meeting in Welshpool explained: "While Shrewsbury is of course an inland town the River Severn circles much of it giving the feeling that it is on an island so I guess that's how this new card is included in the Cambrian Coastcard collection. Tenuous links with the coast aside, I'm sure that attractive marketing material like this promoting travel to Shrewsbury, an important centre for shopping, leisure and tourism, by means other than the car will help alleviate some of the parking and congestion problems currently affecting the town centre as well as encouraging people to travel in a more environmentally sustainable way."
The Cambrian Coastcards are a collection of five A5 sized postcards depicting images of railway related posters from yesteryear that have been reused to promote travel to towns on the Cambrian network by train. The Cards have proven to be very popular as collectables in their own right as well as being useful and attractive stationary.
The new cards give the contact details of tourism and public transport information providers that will be useful for those wishing to visit the Cambrian Coast or Shrewsbury by train.
The new Coastcards will be available for free from manned railway stations, at Tourist Information Centres and other outlets along the Cambrian network. However should you wish to receive a card in the post, please send a pre paid self addressed envelope (at least A5 in size) to the address on the left.
