A group of 32 Ukrainians, who are being hosted in the local area, recently travelled on the Cambrian Line to Tywyn for a heritage rail experience on the Talyllyn Railway.

Making good use of the free travel for refugees scheme, the group travelled from Barmouth to Tywyn on the Cambrian Coast Line, before enjoying a ride on the Talyllyn Railway. They were given a warm welcome at Talyllyn and were ‘wowed’ by the age of the railway and described it as being ‘very authentic’.

The free travel scheme for refugees provides unlimited travel on all local bus services, Transport for Wales rail services across Wales and bus and Transport for Wales train services that cross into England if starting or finishing in Wales. The scheme runs until 30th September for all Ukrainian refugees with proof of eligibility. You can find more information here.

The smiles on their faces say it all, a spectacular and memorable day was had! We really hope they can come together again soon and enjoy more scenic journeys on the Cambrian Line.
