On another beautiful sunny day I got the train to Borth early in the morning and travelled to meet Sadie Everard who is organising the annual Gŵyl Borthffest Borth Arts Festival which is over the Whitsun Bank Holiday weekend.

Sitting in Sadie's shop chatting about the festival I was amazed at all the arts and culture packed into such a small place. Sadie is an inspirational woman who is doing amazing work in her community. This year the festival has been funded by sponsorship and, despite the funding climate being very difficult, has managed to find sponsorship and a lot of goodwill to run the festival this year.

This is from Sadie:

Borthffest is now an established event in the calendar of the innovative and resourceful community of Borth. Originated in 2024 as a pilot to showcase the depth and range of creativity billowing from the community, Borthffest aims to promote to visitors, holidaymakers and inhabitants the array of establishments, groups and individuals in the village with ingenuity at their heart.
Once again Whitsun Bank Holiday weekend (May 23rd – 26th) will feature happenings centered around Libanus 1877 (Borths’ two screen boutique cinema) presenting in addition to the usual contemporary films, free art house cinema and debate.
‘Star of the Sea’ the community arts venue, which regularly hosts exclusive and exciting bands, has an abundant agenda, including a performance by Côr y Gors, a harp playing workshop and a Twmpath, whilst galleries such as ‘2 London Place’ will be showing the exuberant artwork of the artist Ruth Koffer and holding a number of creative art workshops.
Last year featured 58 scarecrows exhibited around the community coordinated by ‘Borth Arts’ and added to this established event will be The Craft Fair, a display by BUSST (Borth Ultimate Synchronised Swimming Team), Sunset painting on the prom and Welsh song writing with Caryl Parry Jones from Radio Cymru.
This year there is the addition of ‘The John Hefin Prize for Film Making’, ‘The Muriel Delahaye Prize for Art’ and ‘The Billy Doyle Dapper Dressing Award’.
Follow us on Facebook and Instagram @borthffest for updates. Not forgetting the ‘Fringe on the Fringe’ and other events which will be published online. Also @rewclothing in Harlech.”

It looks like a fabulous day or weekend for all the family, and you have the beautiful beach as well. Catch a train and go down and spend the day there.

Do you know? Who is the Welsh director, producer and writer of Hinterland the TV series based in Borth and Aberystwyth?
