Recently I ventured further north, up the Cambrian Coast, travelling by train from Newtown all the way to Pwllheli to visit our dedicated station adopters.
Joining me was Mel and Sian from Transport for Wales and Karen, a fellow Community Rail Officer for the Conwy Valley and North Wales Coast Community Rail Partnership. We met in Porthmadog railway station and walked the short distance across the car park to a small pile of tyres and a little house made with bottle and cob and it had a wonderful green roof. This was Incredible Edible Porthmadog or 'Edible Madog'. They are the station adopters for Porthmadog railway station and very much part of the community in Porthmadog.

The little house that had been built was warm and dry inside with an insulated living roof. The windows are bottle and there is one made from the glass door of a washing machine. After delivering some compost for the seedlings, the group made us very welcome with a cup of tea and told us about all the amazing things they have done and are doing. They work with the local schools and leisure center to promote growing food sustainably and so much more. They are in the process of making a greenhouse out of old tyres and old window frames which was fascinating.
Then we went up the coast to Cricceth to see Cricceth in Bloom, a wonderful group of ladies who are not only the station adopters, but they also keep the town of Cricceth looking fabulous. We spent some time with them and then carried up the coast to Pwllheli which is the end of the Cambrian Line or the beginning for some people.

The weather was still beautiful, and we simply had to go down to the sea and breathe in the fresh sea air. We had plants for the planters on the station which will look splendid once they start to bloom. The Buffers Café next to the station was busy and has lovely food I am told but I had a train to catch so couldn’t stop so next time I will make time to pop in there.
Do you know? What was the famous 1960’s TV series that was filmed at Portmeirion which is a mile away from Minffordd station?
