A couple of weeks ago, I trundled up the coastline on the train to meet with Bekki Stott at Barmouth Ticket Office. After a Facebook exchange of messages with Bekki invited me to see first-hand the incredible blend of community spirit and bustling activity that makes this spot the town’s vibrant hub.

After alighting from the train, I crossed the level crossing to the opposite platform and joined the queue at the ticket office. It’s like a Tardis; it is much bigger inside than the outside. The atmosphere was charged with the pulse of everyday life: people arriving, chatting, and asking for everything from directions, tickets, to the location of the nearest toilets. Bekki, with effortless charm and energy, ushered me around the side of the counter so I could get a glimpse of how much her workplace had to offer.
